Announcing a Google Earth Non-Profit Event in Kampala!

We cordially invite all non-profit and public benefit organizations to a special event and workshop with the Google Earth Outreach team in Kampala, Uganda. 

What is this event?
Google Earth Outreach is a program that helps non-profit organizations and public benefit groups learn to use Google Earth and Maps as powerful communications tools to educate the public and policy-makers. At this event, you will hear first-hand from organizations who have used Google Earth for outreach and advocacy in Africa. You will also learn how to implement Google Maps and Google Earth for your own projects in our afternoon workshop.

Google Earth Outreach is a program that helps non-profit organizations and public benefit groups learn to use Google Earth and Maps as powerful communications tools to educate the public and policy-makers. We will have a series of workshops during the AfricaGIS conference. If you are not planning on attending the conference, and you represent a local Ugandan NGO or non-profit group, we have a special event for you to attend on October 30. You do NOT need to register for AfricaGIS to attend this special workshop for non-profit organizations. 

Who should attend?
Non-profit organizations and public benefit groups from the Kampala area that would like to learn how to use Google Maps and Google Earth as powerful communication tools for their work.

Cost: Free, but registration is required (register at right). Registration for AfricaGIS is NOT required to attend the NGO workshop!

11:00 - 12:30    Introduction to Google Geo Tools
Workshop description: Have you ever wondered which Google geo tool to use? Google Earth or Google Maps? What about Google Map Maker and Google SketchUp? Come to this workshop to learn how Google's geo tools relate to each other and other tools. This is a great overview of all the Google workshops at AfricaGIS, as well as a perfect primer for those interested in what's available from Google in the mapping world. Prerequisites: none

14:00 - 15:30    Introduction to Google Earth & Maps
Workshop description: Get started with Google Earth & Maps! You'll learn how to add points, lines, and polygons to Google Earth and Maps, and then embed images and YouTube videos in your balloons. You'll find out how to easily drape your images and maps over the terrain in Google Earth, and overlay your photographs in the places they were taken to create a photographic tour! Finally, you will record and narrate a guided tour so you can tell your unique story to your users! Prerequisites: none

16:00 - 17:30    Publishing and Embedding Maps on Your Website
Workshop description: Attend this workshop to learn how to publish your Google Earth project online for the whole world to find.  You'll discover how you can easily embed your Google Earth and Google Maps projects (even your Earth tours!) into your website or blog. You'll learn which websites to upload your Google Earth and Maps projects to, as well as how to blog about your project effectively. Prerequisites: none
